Never be lacking in zeal, keep your spiritua fervent, serving the Lord.” Romans 12:11
In Re. 3:19 Jesus told the church in Laodicea, “Be zealous and repent.”
Paul written letter to Titus said that Jesus gave Himself for us : to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are His very own, eager [zealous] to do what is good . Most people believe zealous Christians are strange and somewhat misled.but we know in whom we trust , in whom we live and have our being it is in the Lord who died for us , we are zealous without a shadow of doubt, we are in love with our saviour and so the zeal and the passion continues.
While Paul displayed great zeal and passion of the gospel also it was in his defense, when he stood before Festus. "Festus said in a loud voice, "Paul, you are out of your mind! Your great learning is driving you mad." But Paul said, "I am not out of my mind, most excellent Festus, but I utter words of sober truth.…Act26:23-25
What does it mean to be zealous
Being full of zeal means that we have a burning desire to please God and to do His will. God puts this desire in our hearts when we are saved. A zealous Christian is ready to make any sacrifice, to go through any trouble, to suffer, to work, to do anything in order to please God and honor Him. A zealous Christian is a person who concerned about one thing, who lives for one thing—and that one thing is to please God. He doesn’t care what others think. Nothing else is important except pleasing God.
The apostles served the Lord with zeal (Acts 20:24; Philippians 3:13-14). Paul faced
persecution and opposition and prison. But he endured everything in order to tell others the
Good News about Jesus. The early church was full of zeal. Some lost everything because they after followed Christ (Hebrews 10:33-34). They were ridiculed and beaten, but they did not give up their faith. When told to deny his faith, It was Polycarp told the Roman Governor, years I have served Christ and He has never denied me. How can I deny my King?” Now this man I would say is very zealous and tenacious in belief.
Zeal marked the Lord Jesus. He told His disciples that His food was doing the will of God and finishing His work (John 4:34). When Jesus cleared the Temple the disciples remembered the prophecy from Psalm 69:9, “Zeal for God’s house burns within me.” (John 2:17) When we Through out the four Gospels, we have seen the zeal of our Lord in full action displayed was full of zeal. He is our great example. now you know we are talking about the zeal of the spirit. and not zeal of the flesh.
What is true zeal
Some people are often full of zeal, but their zeal is ignorant., and self sufficient, not pertaining to any knowledge of the living God.
True zeal is zeal based on knowledge of God Paul said the people had zeal, but it that zeal was misdirected only because they had not the guidance of Holy Spirit
and was lack of knowledge.(Romans 10:2). When Paul spoke to the People in Jerusalem, he said that he Paul had been zealous for God, but it was not a zeal based on knowledge and so being lack of knowledge he persecuted the church (Acts 22:3-4).
True zeal is zeal from the right motives. Sometimes we do the right thing but from wrong motives being influences by fleshly thoughts. Rather than from a desire to please God, we have impure motives. God looks at our motives he is able to read our hearts intent. We think of how much work we do, but God looks at our hearts. many may be concerned only to advance their ideas and thinking, but have no real love for God. Jesus said the Pharisees.
travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and then turn the person into something worse than he was before (Matthew 23:15). The zeal of the Pharisee was religiously motivated , it was not good zeal. Zeal can come from selfishness.
True zeal is zeal based on God’s Word. It is zeal for the things that the Bible emphasizes on passion that is undeniable and sometimes cannot be explain nor fathom with the mere human mind set
